Layout Updates

So, it’s been a minute since I posted. Mostly because I wasn’t doing much work on the railroad. But now I’m making progress again.

Since the last update (IN APRIL of 2024!) I have removed the shelves in the basement and re-arranged a bunch of stuff so I could move the first section of the layout into place and start expanding.

Then I built the second section as an L-girder style and set it into place.

I laid down some cardboard and paper and did some CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) to figure out roughly what I wanted on this section. It’s going to be rolling hills along US 2 with a grain elevator and a stock loading pen.

Then progress on the layout stopped for a bit because it’s winter and snowy here and I don’t have a great way to get sheet goods home in the winter. I needed to put up the hard board backdrop before I went any further. Ah! I realized my nephew has a pickup truck so I convinced him to help me pick up a sheet of hardboard, a sheet of 1/2″ plywood and a sheet of 1″ foam.

So I pulled the layout out and glued supports to the wall for the backdrop. Then I screwed strips of hardboard up and am currently mudding the joints. I should be able to paint it in a day or two and then proceed with laying track!
